November Blog

It has been such a amazing month, I can’t believe it’s nearly over and we are near the festive season. I have been busy Birding and there is so much to talk about.

I started with a trip to The River Esk in Musselburgh, I was planning on going to the Lagoons but when I saw there was a lot of activity I decided to get off the bus. There were lots of Graylag Geese,Canada Geese, Black Headed Gulls & Mallards.

I also noticed some Starlings on top of a house, when I was heading back I had a walk through a lot of Canada Geese they didn’t seem bothered with me.

I hadn’t been to Blackford Pond for awhile so I decided to pay it a visit. Not long I was there watching Mallards, Mute Swans & Black Headed Gulls, the rain came chucking it down but The Teal turned up and that brightened up the damp day but I left quite quickly.

Recently I had been reading on Twitter that a Kingfisher had been spotted at The Royal Botanic Gardens, and folk had been able to see it so I decided to go and have a look myself. When I arrived at the Chinese Pond there were quite a few Twitchers there waiting to see it. I took my spot and while we waited a Bullfinch appeared having a feed.

Then suddenly The Kingfisher appeared delighting us all and I stayed awhile and then decided to go and let other people see the bird and enjoy watching it as much as I did.

I also watched a few birds in the garden this week and watched a Mistle Thrush & the return of The Great Spotted Woodpecker who I hadn’t seen for a few weeks.

This week I went to Figgate Park because my favourite wintering bird The Waxwing had been spotted so I decided to have a look. Sadly there was not a sign of them but I had a good day watching Canada Geese,Mallards,Moorhen, Wigeon & Black Headed Gulls.

I decided to return at the weekend, sadly it was a awful wet day so the park was empty but that wasn’t going to stop me looking for The Waxwings, I went towards a tree and there they were around a berry tree. There around five of them it was worth getting soaked for so I’m glad I finally saw them and hope to see them again soon.

I can’t believe my next blog will be my last of the year and it will be a 2019 highlights blog and you won’t have to wait too long, it will be out in a few weeks.
