The year is going in fast I can’t believe we are in May already the month of April just flew by.
April started with very exciting news, after what feels like a long time a Great Tit started building a nest in the camera nest box it was exciting watching it build the nest on the TV. It was busy going in and out bringing in different types of moss and brightly coloured stuff. Every morning while I brushed my teeth upstairs I looked out the window to see it fly off and come back. After a couple of days the nest was finished, she continued to re arrange the nest and then fly off. She eventually started to roost in the box and each day I noticed she would fly out the box and return to the box around the same time every evening at 7.15-20pm sometimes earlier. Sadly on 21st it would be the last time I saw The Great Tit, I saw her re arrange stuff in the nest in the morning and then fly off for the day thinking she will be back. When I returned home from dinner I switched the TV on to see her but then discovered the nest was empty. I thought ok maybe she’s chosen to roost elsewhere, next day I saw no sighting and in the evening around 7pm there was no sighting and as I write this blog the nest remains empty. For whatever reason she’s either decided not lay eggs in the box or something has happened to her which is a real shame because I was expecting to see eggs by now but sadly it wasn’t to be.

I had a good morning Birding at my local patch Cammo Estate Nature Reserve on a warm sunny morning. I saw a lot of birds including Robin, Woodpigeon, Wren, Long Tailed Tit, Great Tit, Stock Dove, Crow, Blackbird, Blue Tit, Magpie & Mallard.

This year marks The Scottish Ornithologist’s Club (SOC) 90th anniversary and to mark this occasion they organised a 90th celebration talk at The Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy with a talk from Wildlife Cameraman Hamza Yassin. It was a very interesting talk which followed to a short Q&A session then a book signing, I didn’t get a book signed because I got his latest book last year at a talk in Edinburgh and got it signed then but it was a great turn out and a fantastic evening. Hamza is touring this show so if he’s near you I recommend you go.

I had a quick visit to The Scottish Seabird Centre before going elsewhere but it was great to be back in North Berwick and visit the centre. It was rather blowy that day so I didn’t see a lot of birds except Pied Wagtail, Herring Gull & Feral Pigeon, I will be back soon.

I will finish the blog yesterday I was in Bathgate and watched three Buzzards soaring in the sky it was amazing to see. This month I will go Birding before I head back to The Outer Hebrides for a holiday I will tell you about that next month.
