At the start of the year it can be depressing seeing Christmas trees on the pavements for weeks, dark days and damp days but January started off frosty which also made pavements slippery so I stayed in for a few days but once the ice melted I started my Birding of 2025 at Cammo Estate Nature Reserve my local patch.
It was a nice sunny day but the birds were out in full force, at the top of the hill I watched a couple of Long Tailed Tits on the tree chirping away, Goldfinches flocking together & a skien of Geese flying over a great start to the 2025 season.

Few days later I decided to go sea watching in South Queensferry, I had a good afternoon watching Oystercatchers, Herring & Black Headed Gulls, Crows, Rooks & Starlings.

During on my walks I watched Mallards on The River Almond there was a Moorhen but it ran off before I could get a picture also a Robin sang away not caring I was in touching distance.

Last Sunday I took part in The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch. I did mine on Sunday because from Friday-Saturday Scotland was on red alert from Storm Eowyn . Sunday was calm to do it. Sadly birds weren’t visible much compared to other days but the highlight for me a Heron turned up. Every count counts hopefully next year I will see more birds.

Last week I was walking down on The River Almond and a Dipper showed up chirping and diving.

January now has gone and I’m looking forward to February especially as I celebrate 23 years of Birding in two weeks until then have a great month.
