January Blog

New Year, New Month Happy New Year Everyone I hope 2025 is a good year for you all I hope you had a lovely Christmas also. This is just going to be a short blog .

I said in the last blog I was planning some Birding outings before Christmas but sadly I was unable to go out much because the weather was so bad, once it cleared I manage to go Birding at my local patch. It was quiet but I did get to see some birds I saw Blackbird, Blue Tit, Crow, Magpie, Mallard, Robin & Woodpigeon.

I thought that was to be my final Birding outing of 2024 but the next day I noticed someone on a Private FB Group said they had spotted The Ring Necked Parakeet down in Cramond. A few weeks ago someone had sighted the bird and thought it was someone’s lost parrot I recognised it as a Ring Necked Parakeet. It has been sighted a few times but I never saw it so I thought I’d head down to the area in Cramond it had been spotted. It didn’t take me long to hear it before I saw it and when I did see it I couldn’t keep my eyes off it. We do have Parakeets in Edinburgh in the Duddingston area but I have never seen them but to see one down the road was just as exciting it seems happy there, that was an exciting twitch.

On the 21st December it was National Robin Day, and so I was going to do my fourth National Robin Day Birdwatch. Sadly the weather was awful that day and it looked like I might have to give it a miss but nope I looked out my window for a hour and I’m glad I did as I got a good amount I saw Woodpigeon, Robin, Magpie, House Sparrow, Chaffinch, Herring Gull & Dunnock.

I’m looking forward to what 2025 has in store for me but I will tell you about them in my blogs. Again Happy New Year 2025
