The months are going in quickly can’t believe we are in March already. Unfortunately this is going to be another short blog because although I enjoyed February sadly I didn’t go out Birding as much as I have liked due to bad weather so hopefully in March I will get the opportunity to go out more if the weather improves.
At the beginning of February around lunchtime one day I was looking out the window when suddenly a Heron appeared and flew down and landed on my neighbours shed. They have a pond in their garden so it was probably eying up fish they might have in the pond, The Heron must have caught something in its eye because it flew down to their garden. I didn’t see it fly up again, I think this is the same Heron I saw during my Big Garden Birdwatch in January, however it was great to see it and get a picture l

February is a special month to me because it’s the month I celebrate my Birding anniversary on the 16th, this year I celebrate 23 years of Birding. As you probably know on previous blogs, on my anniversary I usually celebrate by going to The Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh because it was my first local patch and also were I wrote down my first bird sightings in my very first notebook.

However due to the damage from Storm Eowyn we had a few weeks ago I heard that some of the paths in The Botanic Gardens were closed off so this year I decided not to go but I will go next year. I had to go Birding on my anniversary so I went to my current local patch Cammo Estate Nature Reserve. I had a good morning however it wasn’t peaceful with lots of dog walkers around and very noisy dogs I don’t think I was going to see any birds at all but I did see birds mainly Great Tit, Blue Tit, Woodpigeon, Robin, Crow, Blackbird, Heron & Mallard.

Spring is on the way because recently I have been waking up and hearing the start of The Dawn Chorus first it was a Robin and then the next morning it was a Blackbird it’s lovely to wake up too. Last week I saw my first Ladybird of the year but all I want is more decent weather and start to enjoy Spring Birding. Have a great month and I will let you know what I saw this month in the next blog.
