March Blog

I’m currently on holiday in Nerja at the moment and having a great time and listening to Monk Parakeets while I type but I will tell you about it in the next blog. February was a good month and had good days Birding.

I had decided one morning to go Birding at Dalmeny Estate, it’s a place I usually avoid because it’s just fields around but I wanted to do some exercising so decided to go Birding too. I’m glad I did because on my walk I heard a Buzzard in the distance and saw it too and I saw this bird sitting on a telephone wire and it wasn’t until I got closer I realised it was a Kestrel. A Kestrel is a bird I hardly see so I was a bit excited so I watched it for a bit before it flew off. I continued my walk in the local park and watched Mallards on the River Almond & a Chaffinch singing on the tree.

On the 16th February it was my 22nd Birding anniversary and as I do every year for it I visit the Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh because it was my first local patch. I had a great morning watching Robins, Moorhens, Mallards, Herring Gulls, Woodpigeons & Magpies. When I got home it was great comparing on what I saw on my first Birding outing and what I saw 22 years later. It was great reminiscing looking through my old notebooks I have been very lucky.

I hope you enjoyed my blog this month the next blog will start with my trip to Nerja which I said at the start I’m currently on holiday. I’m looking forward to what March has to offer.

Great photos! I always enjoy birdwatching in the Dalmeny Estate, it’s great for butterflies too in the summer. The Botanics is one of my favourite places too
