August Blog

This is the time of year when Birds suddenly go quiet & disappear, Why? do you ask? Well after the breeding season ends they end up looking scruffy they have to disappear for a while to grow new feathers and before you know it they appear looking nice for the next season.

July was pretty quiet for me but I did manage one outing at my local patch. It was very quiet for birds I did hear them but only birds I saw were Magpie & Woodpigeon. I still enjoyed my walk but it gave me the opportunity to take part in The Big Butterfly Count run by The Butterfly Conservation. The survey started on 18th July and ends on 10th August, it’s really fun all you have to do is count how many butterflies you see for 15 minutes and put them down on the app or online. The butterfly I saw mainly and since has been Small White. Since there were no birds around I decided to stop Birding till September.

I did see great amount of Gulls in the sky which usually means there’s flying ants around (Flying Ants Day) and other insects it’s a great spectacle to see, you can see my video of this year’s on my YouTube channel. This week I had a visitor to the garden it came twice and that was a Pied Wagtail. This ends my short blog but although my Birding outings are finished till September I will continue to watch birds in the garden until then have a great August.
