April Blog

As I type this month’s blog I am sitting outside in the garden and can say Spring has arrived. Birds are gathering up nesting material and the Woodpigeons are getting frisky but the most important thing of all is that the birds are singing away.

In March I managed to go on a lot of Birding outings and it all started on my local patch. It was a lovely morning and the birds were singing away. On my arrival I could hear the drumming of The Great Spotted Woodpecker down the other side of the canal, I had found the tree were the drumming was coming from and then suddenly I spotted The Great Spotted Woodpecker flying off so that was a great start.

I carried on and on my walk I watched Blue & Great Tits, Robin, Mallard, Blackbird, & Woodpigeon & Stock Dove. The biggest surprise I heard a Nuthatch calling and I decided to look for it but I got distracted and saw something climbing up on the tree it was a Treecreeper my first time ever seeing one in Cammo so that was a great day Birding.

My next adventure took me to a place I haven’t been Birding properly and that was Linlithgow Loch. There was a reason to visit though , two Great Crested Grebes had been spotted there and people in a Birding Group were taking pictures so I had to go and it was going to be a lovely sunny day. It was a lovely sunny day and after I had my picnic I started my Birding around the loch and it was a great day spotting Cormorants, Water Rail, Chiffchaff, Coot Moorhen, Mallard, Swan & Buzzard and yes I did see the Grebes they were quite far out to get close up pics but it was fantastic to see them.

Few days later I visited two places I haven’t been for ages and that was Blackford Pond & Figgate Park. I went to Blackford Pond first because I haven’t been there for a long time and it was great to be back. It was bit quiet but I did enjoy watching Tufted Ducks, Heron, Coot, Moorhen, Stock Dove, Blackbird & Chiffchaff.

After lunch I made my way to Figgate Park it was nice to be back but sadly the board walk was closed off however it didn’t stop me enjoying myself around the park watching Graylag Goose, Mute Swan, Chaffinch, Blue Tit, Blackbird, Stock Dove, Mallard & Black backed & Black Headed Gulls it was a great day.

I will be back at these places.

Last week I had a couple of days in Fife and had a great time. I didn’t manage to go Birding properly there but I did manage to get close ups of Eider Ducks so that was better than nothing.

I have a few places lined up for April (can’t believe it’s April already) so I’m hoping to have more sunny Birding days until then have a Happy Easter.
