I started the month of October at my local patch Cammo Estate Nature Reserve but as soon as I stepped outside I was greeted by a skien of Geese I thought that’s a great start for my Autumn Birding.

I had a great wonder on my local patch apart from seeing Robin, Woodpigeon, Magpie & Crow it was pretty quiet so it gave me time to look at the autumn colours.

My next outing took me to The River Almond Walkway. It was a lovely sunny morning with birds activity. The first bird I spotted was The Heron perched on top of the first waterfall motionless waiting for food. Even though it’s a common sight it’s still exciting to see these birds, I carried on with my walk on the walkway watching Mallards, Wren, Magpie, Grey Wagtail & Blackbird it was still bit quiet but a good morning.

Something not bird related that evening I thought I would post that evening The Northern Lights were on show in The UK and I managed to spot them in my garden. It was my first time seeing them and it was amazing to see them.

One thing I like about this time of year is watching Waders and listening to their calls so I thought I will head down to Cramond Beach and watch the birds down there. Through the woodland area I spotted two Little Grebes diving which was nice so I watched them for a bit and I carried on walking to the foreshore. The Tide was coming in so there wasn’t a lot of Waders I’d of liked but there were some about I did see birds such as Redshank, Curlew,Teal, Pied Wagtail, Gooseander, Buzzard and to my surprise a Great Crested Grebe which was amazing to see because I don’t see them in my area so that was a highlight of my day and I came home with a smile on my face.

Few days later I was out for a walk on Cramond again and noticed the tide was out and lots of birds around but sadly I didn’t have my binoculars so I couldn’t see what was there but I did see The Little Grebe again.

On Monday I returned to my local patch Cammo Estate Nature Reserve and today the birds were in full swing. Birds I saw was The Heron down on the canal along with Mallards. Other birds I saw were Great Tit, Blackbird, Magpie,Robin,Jackdaw,CrowBlack Headed Crow & Nuthatch.

On Tuesday I returned to The River Almond Walkway and it was a great morning. The Heron I’m assuming it’s the same one I saw few weeks ago was still in the same place on top of the waterfall but when I was heading home it was gone. Other birds I saw were Magpie,Woodpigeon,Mallard,Great Tit, Wren and for the first time in ages a Dipper which was amazing to see a good two days Birding.

I can’t believe we are now in November I’m looking forward what this month brings me I will tell you about it next month for my final blog of 2024.
