April Blog

I had a great 10 day holiday in Nerja Spain, the weather was amazing compared to back home. Not only I visited the caves which was a must see I enjoyed the scenery and the atmosphere but most importantly the bird life was really good it was lovely watching Monk Parakeets calling and flying over. A lot of the birds I saw were similar to ones we get back home I saw Collared Doves, Blackbird, House Sparrow & Ferral Pigeons, though I did see my first Black Redstart which was exciting. I did notice that the Blackbirds looked slightly thinner compared to our ones and their call was slightly different but overall I was happy watching them wondering about in the garden from the balcony.

After the 10 days were up it was time to head home to a very cold and damp UK, it was sad to pack away the T-shirts, shorts and sandals but also nice to be home. Sadly after enjoying the warm sunshine we returned to rain rain and more rain so it was Garden Birding for the time which was nice because I watched a flock of Finches up on the tree there were Greenfinches, Goldfinches & Chaffinches.

I also noticed a couple of House Sparrows checking out the nestbox sadly not the one with the camera one but I will keep an eye out.

When I thought we will never get any sunny days we did and so I immediately went to my local patch because it was the only dry day that week. It went on to a great start because as I entered Cammo Estate I was greeted by hearing the first Chiffchaff of the year followed by a Song Thrush in the field. There were a lot of birds around I saw a Jay, Blue & Great Tits, Robin, Pheasant & Great Spotted Woodpecker it felt Spring was finally here. Sadly after that it has rained non stop.

March wasn’t a great month but I’m really hoping this wet weather we’ve been having almost every day will soon go and we will get nicer weather I hope you all had a great Easter.
