What usually is a very long month turned out to go in very fast. January ended very quickly but it was a good month even though we had a lot of rain.
I will start this blog on something very exciting, at the beginning of the month I just happened to look outside and I thought I saw a bird fly into the camera nest box. I thought I was imagining things so I thought I’d better check the camera on the tv and to my amazement a Blue Tit was inside admiring it fingers crossed it decides to use it later in the year.

This month I’ve done a lot of exercise from mainly walking so I’ve seen some good birds whilst I’ve been walking. One of these walks included a skein of Geese flying over which was exciting because I haven’t seen much of them during autumn and winter so it was exciting to stand and watch them fly over.

My first Birding outing of the new year was at my local patch Cammo Estate. Whilst I was having breakfast I saw a bird on the tree in the garden, I looked through on my telescope and it was a Redwing the first I’ve seen in the garden for awhile. I watched it for 5 minutes before a Crow flew over ahead causing the Redwing to fly off.

I had a great morning at my local patch a Kingfisher was reported seen at the new boardwalk pond but sadly it was a no show for me however it was great to see the Heron back sitting along the canal even though a Dog was trying to go for it but its owner told it to leave it alone. There is always a particular spot in the woods I like to go to if you just stand not for long within minutes birds will fly near you. On this day I was getting close encounters with Great Tits & Robins it was a great day.

The next few days I was out on my walks and spotted a Robin on Davidsons Mains Park singing away followed by another skien of Geese and a Gooseander on The River Almond and then I was down on the foreshore at Cramond and saw lots of Oystercatchers on the beach, Pied Wagtail next to the picnic bench and four Gooseanders two males and two females.

I hope you all took part in The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch at the weekend, I did mine on Saturday and had a great hour my results were 3 Great Tit, 2 Greenfinch, 4 Blue Tit, 2 Robin, 2 Magpie, 3 Woodpigeon, 5 Long Tailed Tit & 1 Chaffinch.

Earlier this week I had a quick walk along The River Almond and saw a Gooseander, Blue Tit & Robins singing away. It was a great month despite most of the days were rain but I’m looking forward Birding this month especially on the 16th when I celebrate 22 years of Birding.

My daughter has been enthusiastically ticking off her RSPB list as we visited a few spots in East Lothian. Keeps me fit, while I accompany her, as well benefitting from being educated on our wildlife.
Love your posts, keep up the good work.
