I can’t believe we are now in August this year is flying in. Around this time birds are a bit quiet after the breeding season they hide away to grow new feathers because if you see them at the feeders they look rather tatty so don’t worry if you are not seeing many birds at the moment they will return.
At the beginning of the month I was down at the park I noticed a couple of Magpies making a lot of noise then all of a sudden a young juvenile Blackbird appeared. It looked liked the birds had gone for the young bird, there were a lot of folk around so I stood near the young Blackbird to a) make sure it’s ok b) make sure no one disturbs it & c) The Magpies don’t return. It was ok because I saw it eventually fly back in the tree with its parents who were calling frantically I managed to scare of the Magpies and the Blackbirds flew off.

We have had a lot of rain recently so I haven’t been able to go out Birding as much as I would have liked but I did eventually manage to get out when we had a dry day . I went to my local patch saw a few birds from Blackcap, Woodpigeon & Blackbird. I also took part in The Big Butterfly Count and saw a Speckled Wood.

While I wasn’t able to to go out Birding due to the rain I’ve had a lot of activity at the feeders with lots of young juvenile Blue Tits.

I went back to my local patch last week I had a good morning but sadly didn’t see many birds but I did see my first dragonfly of the year so that was good to see.

I am pleased to finish the blog to say I have a juvenile Great Spotted Woodpecker visiting my garden. It arrived on the 21st July and has been coming back pretty much every day enjoying the coconut feeder just like the female Great Spotted Woodpecker who used to visit my garden did. I will be back Birding again in September until then it’s Garden Birding!!.
